A George III swing-handled fruit basket
of oval form and with rope-twist borders, the bowl chased with beaded spiral flutes and with alternating panels pierced with quatrefoils and foliage, the centre engraved with an armorial within a shield-shaped cartouche with bow above, the handle with a vacant cartouche, apparently bearing maker's marks only for Samuel Herbert & Co., the other marks probably obliterated by the piercing, London circa 1765 - 12½in. (32cm.), 25oz., extensively damaged and repaired.
