"This book was given to Mr E. D. Makepeace's father by Mr Horn, a relative of the family, who was yachting correspondent to The Times and a well known personality in the yachting world during this period. Mr Horn, who was a familiar figure at all the yachting centres and went to the U.S. to report on the America Cup races, knew all the yachts described" (inscription mounted on verso of title).
