Although the back of the meter carries a pasted on label Zeppelin L21 Sept 3rd 1916, that information is almost certainly wrong. SL11 was the first German airship shot down over England. Because of public concern about the lack of success by Defence Forces against Zeppelins the official release called SL11 Zeppelin L21 and the captain (Schutze) was buried as commander of Zeppelin L21. SL11 was shot down on September 3rd 1916 by 2nd Lt W.L. Robinson of No. 39 Sqn RFC and fell in flames at Cuffley north of London. It is not known how the fuel-flow meter escaped the fire
