A European-subject lacquer rectangular suzuribako
decorated in iroe hiramakie, takamakie, scattered nashiji and inlaid in pewter and aogai with an equestrian figure wearing a hat and holding a banner above two further Europeans and a Japanese figure, one smoking a pipe, another holding a rope and the other the horse, the nashiji interior fitted with a tsuitake in the form of a boat and inkstone, decorated to the interior of the cover with boats and further figures on a riverbank overlooking a mountainous landscape with a shrine entrance -- 11½.in (29.2cm) long, 18th/19th Century, (old wear and chips to extremeties).
