Lot Essay

Richard Pudsey Dawson was an accomplished late Victorian turner and a member of the Amateur Mechanical Society. He made much of his own apparatus, including a geometric slide-rest which he patented and was later made by J.H.Evans. The original is still in existence and the stamp on this small item is the same. The goneostat is as shown in Evans' Ornamental Turning, Fig. 8.
