[ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPT] -- "A Little Mirror of Musick, Anno 1926," illuminated manuscript on vellum, small 4° (177 x 120mm.), 41 leaves, written in an italic hand in variously coloured inks, though principally black, containing 9 miniatures and numerous initials, some in burnished gold, many decorated in medieval style with human figures, birds, flowers and tendrils, bound in bronze with two clasps, front cover with applied bronze decoration showing birds between Romanesque arches at top, and a single bird at foot, the side panels chased with angels playing musical instruments, three to each panel, the central design in applied carved bone and gilded metal on a blue ground showing a church dome, possibly the Duomo in Florence, and angels reading, inset with blister pearls and hardstones, brown morocco turn-ins and vellum liners.

Bach, Christian and Protestant mystics, nursery rhymes such as "Sing a Song of Sixpence," lines from Shakespeare, the "Introduction" to Blake's Songs of Innocence, verse by Browning, Tennyson, and Lewis Carrol, all in praise of music.
