Brunet [II, 579] notes that this edition is generally regarded as the first, but that Graesse records an earlier edition of 1593, possibly a ghost. Del Rio was a member of the Inquisition convened by the Duc d'Albe, and known among the terrified populace of Flanders as the "Conseil de Sang."
