the case with urn surmount and flanked by eagle-headed caryatid mounts, on breakfront base inset with painted porcelain panels depicting rustic scenes, with lion masks trailing berried laurel swags to the fore, on paw feet, the porcelain dial with individual Roman chapters and central scene of two ducks on a lake, the twin barrel movement with strike on bell, stamped on the backplate for JAPY FRERES and numbered 5273 -- 15in. (38cm.) high, on painted stand and ebonised plinth, under glass dome; French, last quarter 19th century
