An English 19th century polished steel two-pillar corkscrew
with turned oak handle bearing a rolled gold shield-shaped plaque inscribed, "This handle is part of an Oak Pile that was for 656 years under Old London Bridge", the two pillars indistinctly inscribed, "The Iron Shoe of an Oak Pile that was 656 years in the foundation of Old London Bridge", bell cap corroded.

Further details
The first stone of the new London Bridge was laid by John Garrett, Lord Mayor of London, on the 14th March 1824, and opened by Their Majesties, King William IV and Queen Adelaide, in 1831. The old bridge, approximately 180 yards away, was demolished shortly thereafter.
