A late French 19th Century bone model of the 70 gun second rate 'Griffin'
with bound mast, yards with stun's'l booms, standing and running rigging, carved figurehead in the form of a Griffin, hair rails, anchors, catheads, anchor floats, belaying rails, gratings, shotracks and shot, copper stove pipe, bell canopy, balustrading, companionways, decklight, rope coils, five ships boats in tiers, chocks and sling's each with thwarts and oars, two with water barrels, upper deck guns in carriages and other details. The planked and pinned hull has carved stern and quarter gallery detailing, black, red and green decoration and is mounted on an unlaid wood plinth with bone surround on a velvet and parquetry display base (later). Measurements (excluding plinth and base) -- 16½ x 26in. (42 x 66cm.)
