Lot Essay

H.M.S. St. George, a First Rate off 120 guns, was built at Plymouth and launched in 1840. In 1858-1859, she was converted into a two decked screw vessel, but saw little further service after that date and was eventually broken up in 1883.

Sir Oswald Walters Brierly was Marine Painter in Ordinary to Queen Victoria from 1874.
