Britannia, designed by Fife and launched in 1893, became the most successful racing cutter of all over her 40years. Most of her crew were employed on a seasonal basis and the maintenance was carried out by professional yards.

Westward was a Herreshoff design, launched in Rhode Island in 1910. Built of steel, she was 135 ft. overall and was the most successful racing schooner in Europe.
