Lot Essay

William Wyld, R.W.S. (1806-1889), a distinguished English water-colour painter in the style of his friend Richard Parkes Bonnington. He studied painting in Paris and worked there much of his life producing prints and topographical watercolours. He exhibited regularly in the Salon from 1839. He was created a Chevalier of the Legion d'Honneur in 1855. He died in Paris on Christmas day 1889
