Lot Essay

John Locker was Deputy Register of the Admiralty Court at Malta, hence the Maltese flavour about a number of the sketches included in the album. A number of the family were gifted artists, including John's brother Edward Hawke Locker, who established the gallery of naval pictures at Greenwich, 1823
