A rare page of lyrics in Elvis Presley's hand for Singin' My Blues To The Lord, circa 1959, the words and music for the song credited by Presley to ? Collins, the majority of the eighteen lines in blue ink with annotations in blue biro such as ..rep. chorus and rep.c P.B. E.P. and Fade Out, the song with a strong gospel message ...I know the Lord will hear and console me So I'm singing my blues to the Lord/Singing my blues, cryin' my blues I plead for relief and not reward I know he'll hear and console me So I'm singing my blues to the Lord By shouting the gospel, I reach him...Till I can join my creator/Troubles on earth will make it hard but I know there'll be someone to hear me When I'm singing my blues to the Lord..., the lyrics written on a page numbered 28, the title of a Chuck Berry song Maybellene written and scoured out by Presley at the top of this page, the lyrics in common mount with a black and white photograph of Presely signing autographs backstage -- 9¾x7in. (24.8x17.9cm.), overall measurements -- 14¼x20½in. (36.2x52.1) framed; accompanied by a letter concerning the provenance from Andy Schröer author of Private Elvis - The Missing Years 1958-1960 (2)
Provenance
Andy Schröer obtained these lyrics from Elvis Presley's landlady Mrs Pieper who rented her house to the Presleys at Goethestrasse 14, Bad Nauheim, Germany in 1959. Presley apparently left these lyrics and those sold in these rooms on June 6th, 1996, behind when he returned to the States.

Lot Essay

These lyrics and those for Elvis's own unreleased composition Mississippi River sold through these rooms on June 6th, 1996, appear to have come from the same notebook used by Elvis in Germany. These particular lyrics reflect Presley's earliest musical influence which came from attending the Pentecostal Church and listening to the psalms and gospel songs. It is also interesting to note the reference to Chuck Berry's debut single.
