A rare late 17th-Century English diamond balance,
by Samuel Neale, with finely modelled steel beam and brass pans, with weights stamped 16(th), 8(th), ¼, ½, 2, 3, 4, 8, 16, 32 and 64, with iron tweezers, the handle shaped in the form of a crown over an inverted vase stamped with the makers mark SN within an oval cartouche, in a fruitwood case with chamfered corners and two sliding covers for the weights and profusely decorated with elegant geometric and scroll stampings to the cover and base, with two brass hooks and eyes and brass wire hinges -- 3¾in. (9.5cm.) wide
