A LARGE COPTIC FRAGMENTARY LINEN TUNIC PANEL, with design in dark purple wool on undyed linen, comprising a horizontal neck panel with row of four dancing figures in arched niches, the figures alternately male and female, the women wearing peploi and the men in animal skins, with foliate tendrils filling the field, stylized shell motif in the arches above, below fall the vertical clavi panels, each with a dancing huntsman with shield, flanked above and below by a lion, mounted and framed -- textile 21½ x 16in. (54.6 x 40.6cm.) max., circa 5th-6th Century A.D.
