A large Roman inscribed terracotta figure of Aphrodite Anadyomene
Circa 3rd Century A.D.
Standing on a high semicircular plinth which has the Greek inscription "Apollouniou" incised in a panel on the reverse. The goddess' right hand resting on the capital of a low fluted pilaster, her left hand holding up a long looped twisted tress, her hair being elaborately dressed with a central parting and multiple rows of plaits crowned by a high chignon, she is naked save for a closely pleated himation which falls in zigzag folds from her left shoulder and is draped around her lower back and right leg, wearing disc earrings, pendant necklace and twisted bracelets on her wrists, right arm, thigh and ankle.
