An Attic white ground lekythos
Circa 440 B.C.
Depicting a woman standing to the left of a tall funerary stele, wearing a chiton and red painted himation, her hair caught back and swept round to fall in wavy tresses over her left shoulder, holding out a large flat basket with traces of red taeniae. She looks towards the stele which is mounted by steps on which has been placed a lekythos, a red taenia is tied around the top of the stele, the shoulder is decorated with palmettes and scrolling tendrils, a band of meander and dotted crosses below, repaired with surface partially flaked
