Down & West 19, pp. 126-27; The Noblest Game 32. Only 5 foot 4½inches tall, John Wisden (1826-84) played in 82 matches for Sussex between 1845 and 1863. Anderson's famous print of the diminutive bowler, suggestive of his cheerful disposition and artful technique, includes a picturesque view of Brighton and the windmill-topped downs.
