Down & West 22, pp. 66-67; Bouwman p. 55. Anderson's portrait successfully conveys the assurance and self-composure of this natural run getter, and highly gifted all-rounder. William Caffyn (1828-1919) was also portrayed by the artist as one of the four players in Sketches of the Surrey Cricketers, as well as being included in the group portrait of the United All England Eleven. He joined Parr's tour to North America (1859), and twice toured Australia, staying on as coach after the second tour of 1863-4. His reminiscences were published in 1899 under the well-known title Seventy-One Not Out.
