Down & West 33, pp. 118-19; Bouwman p. 56. Heathfield Harman Stephenson (1833-96) of Surrey, All England and the United South of England teams, "H. H." to all who knew him, is perhaps most remembered as captain of the all-professional team that visited Australia in 1861-62 on the first tour. He was, in fact, a "gentleman" player, unable to afford amateur status, who later became cricket coach at Uppingham school. Although bowling was his greatest strength, Anderson portrays him as a stalwart figure leaning on his bat, his leadership qualities enhanced by the castle in the distance.
