Lot Essay

It is Australia's second innings. W. G. Grace and a ring of English fielders look on nonchalantly while Tom Hayward, the figure nearest in view, chases a ball hit hard towards the boundary off Tom Richardson's bowling. Trott and Gregory also watch anxiously as they come back for more runs during their 4th wicket stand of 221 runs (despite their efforts, the second innings total of 347 was not enough to prevent an English victory). A RARE PHOTOGRAVURE, UNUSUAL FOR THE TIME IN ITS RENDERING OF GENUINE ACTION ON THE FIELD.
