After defeating the Americans in Paris, and doing so well in the Challenge Round of the Davis Cup, the British team found themselves in great demand for tournaments when they toured America in 1931. One of the first offers they received came from the Southern Californian Assocation who invited Pat Hughes, the team captain, and Perry to Los Angeles for the Pacific Southwest Tournament that followed immediately after the U. S. National Championships. This first trip to California in 1931 marked the start of a new era for Perry. He became an annual visitor to the Pacific Southwest Tournament, playing in the 1931 final, winning the tournament in '32, '33 and '34, reaching the final again in '35, and finding the Hollywood life style much to his taste.
