Lot Essay

The winner of the Gentlemen's Singles Championship becomes the holder, for the year only, of the Challenge Cup, which was presented by The All England Lawn Tennis Club in 1887. The Challenge Cup is kept permanently at the All England Club. Since 1949 winners have received a miniature replica, and the hallmark indicates that Perry was honoured with this miniature replica in 1972, despite being Champion in the pre-war era.
