Fred Perry was the Director of Golf at The Runaway Bay Hotel, Jamaica. The resort had been set up by an old friend, Bernard Sunley the building magnate, in 1962, and it became Perry's winter base until 1983. He first played the game in 1933 at the St. Cloud course, situated outside Paris, just a few days prior the the British team's Davis Cup victory.
