Dora Vallier has recorded only fifteen surviving drawings by Rousseau, including two ink drawings, of which this is one. The artist is known to have exhibited drawings at four Salons des Indépendants between 1886 and 1910. According to his close friend Robert Delaunay, all the drawings would have been destroyed in his studio after his death.
