Lot Essay

Tanaka was born in Kagawa and studied under Ebihara Kinosuke at Nihon University, Tokyo. He has exhibited extensively in Japan, including the Exhibition of "Abstraction and Fantasy" in 1953, at the National Museum of Art, Tokyo. He won the Shell Prize in 1957 and the first Yasui Memorial Prize in 1958. Printmaking is another of his mediums.
