Further details
The Horse would seem to be painted in the colours of Mr B Collett, who raced from the mid 1830's for some ten years. His colours were still registered in 1851 but do not seem to be in current use.
It is possible that the horse is probably a five year old by Voltaire which won five races in 1841. These were the silver cup at Coventry, three races at Worcester and a race at Bromsgrove. He was also third in the Chester Cup and was ridden by Whitehouse. The horse in the painting is a brown (as was Mr Colletts Horse), possibly 'The Dean'.
