This chronometer is an enigma. The dial and top-plate are signed and numbered R. Bridgeman 147 London and the style of engraving is compatible with the first quarter of the nineteenth century; a scrated name behind the dial reads M. Bridgeman. Beneath the balance cock is scratched the number 423, the back of the dial is similarly scratch marked. The counter weight skirt of the bowl would appear from its general state and colour to be of a later date as are the bowl fittings at III & IX. The screw-in bolt action locking arm is modern
