The blade of hollow triangular section lightly etched and originally gilt at the forte with rococo scrollwork, a trophy and a military figure, the hilt with flat oval shell (slight distortion), cast and chased in low relief throughout with fine cabled and cutwork fillets arranged in herringbone and diagonal patterns accompanied by bands of nailhead ornament involving posies of flowers in cartouches, struck on one arm with an assay mark of French type, the original wooden grip bound with twisted silver wire and ribbon, the latter gilt
