With blade of hollow triangular section, lightly etched on both faces of the forte with scrollwork and 'Aubertelle Marchd Fourbisseur grande rue Taranne Fauxbourg St. Germains à L'aigle d'or à Paris', steel hilt chiselled in high relief with trophies of arms and flags accompanied by animals within rococo foliated scrollwork borders, all bright against a gilt fish-roe ground, applied to one shell a (later?) silver Maltese cross, probably originally enamelled, and original wooden grip bound with twisted silver wire, in associated scabbard

The applied cross may indicate that the sword was owned by a member of the Order of St. John
