A Swept-Hilt Rapier
Late 16th/Early 17th Century
The stout double-edged blade of flattened hexagonal section, the central fullers stamped with a series of letters and the ricasso struck on each face with a crowned 'S' mark and 'Caino', and iron hilt comprising slender vertically-recurved quillons with lobe-shaped tips, arms joined on the outside by triple ring-guards and on the inside by quadruple diagonal bars with a small central pierced plate merging with diagonal bars linked to the centre of the slender knuckle-guard (broken), large tapered faceted pommel, and wire-bound wooden grip
