Following the death of the original owner in 1919, this gramophone was consigned to an attic where it remained until recently, the baize bags no doubt accounting for its excellent state of preservation. The needle carton, for standard or 'Forte' needles (later 'Loud Tone') possibly dates from the Great War period, when steel containers may have been unobtainable. The records reflect a wide-ranging musical taste, from Harry Lauder and military bands to Celebrity Vocals and even two instrumental Fonotipias (Kubelik, 62036/7 and Miclos, 39932/3). Labels include G & T, Velvet Face, Columbia Single Face and Twin, covering the period 1908 - 1919
