Lot Essay

The inscription on the first painting reads ...sahib(?).. manawar khan bahdaur 'ilaqadar qamar nagar 'arafa kurnul ast, (... Manawar Khan, Ilaqadar of Qamar, known as Kurnool). The Ilaqadar was the official responsible for collecting rates and taxes and this portrait is probably of Manawar Khan II who ruled from 1815 to 1823.
