Five ragamala paintings
gouache heightened with gold on paper, each with gold margin between black rules, orange border and green leaf, each inscribed and numbered in Urdu on the reverse, showing: Sarang son of Sri Raga, a noble approaches a woman who holds a large flower (in the Pahari system she is normally shown churning butter), Bhala(?) wife of Lalit son of Bhairava, a maidservant offers pan to her mistress who reclines on a bed, Kalhani wife of Shankarharan son of (Megha), a lady holding garlands approaches her bed where a maidservant places petals, ? wife of ... Chand, two ladies point at the new moon, and Khambhavati(?) (inscription missing), a lady and her servants worship the multiheaded god who holds a text, Pahari Plains, circa 1790-1800 - 11¾ x 8in. (30 x 20.5cm.); and 24 Tithankaras, depicted in brown lozenges on pink ground, divided by yellow bands inscribed with the names in devanagari, green leaf, Rajesthan, 19th - 8½ x 7in. (21.8 x 17.4cm.)
