An Elizabeth I lion sejant spoon,
with a fig-shaped bowl and a tapering hexagonal stem surmounted by a gilt finial, by William Cawdell, 1592 - 17cm long (eroded condition); together with a rare pair of late 16th century latten baluster knop spoons, maker's mark struck once in the bowl, IM within a pelleted circle unascribed (traces of gilding, corroded condition) - 15.75cm long, 1oz weighable silver. *
*These three spoons were excavated in a soakaway from the original Tudor kitchen at Sandgate Castle, Kent and as a point of interest, Queen Elizabeth I stayed overnight at the castle in August 1591 on her way to Dover.
