Lot Essay

The reels of film have not been examined, but we are informed that, in contrast to Mr. Butler's usual work from the main camera positions, they were shot from the stands and therefore provide an interesting spectator's eye view of events showing a rare and different record of the opening ceremony and selected athletics events, including the medal ceremonies for the women's long jump (Mary Rand); women's 800m. (Anne Packer); men's long jump (Lynn Davies) and 4 x 400m. relay (in which USA, GB and Trinidad-Tobago all bettered the then existing world record).
