The Rt. Rev. David Stuart Sheppard of Cambridge University, Sussex and England, now Bishop of Liverpool, was the first ordained minister to play in Test cricket. He scored 15,838 runs (ave. 43.51) making 45 centuries in his first-class career, and appeared in no less than 22 Test matches between 1950 and 1963. His last appearance in Test cricket was in the 1962-63 tour of Australia, when his 113 at Melbourne in the third match helped England to their only win of the series.
