Plenipotentiary, a chestnut colt, foaled in 1831 by Emilius out of Harriet, was owned by Mr. Stanlake Batson. Known to his friends as Plenipo, he was a big horse and was once described by the jockey Robinson as 'that great bullock cantering by my side'. He won the Derby in 1834, with P. Connolly up, for which he started favourite at 9 to 4. He also ran in the St. Leger, but was doped and finished last.
