The terracotta on which the present group is based is in the Victoria and Albert museum. It is usually associated with a passage in Vasari concerning a marble group executed by Pierino for the Medici villa at Castello. Interestingly, this bronze pre-dates the repositioning of the head on the right which had been incorrectly restored.
