A late 18th Century ebony and brass vernier octant constructed by H. Hepworth, Bristol, the inlaid ivory scale divided 5° - 0° - 95/f, the vernier divided 10° - 0° - 10°, further ivory inlaid for decoration and to reverse for notes, the brass index arm decoratively engraved , three mirrors, two pin-hole sights (shades missing), in stepped keystone case (restored) with original trade label applied to interior, dated 1779 -- 15in. (38cm.) span
