A William IV "Gibson Patent"* medicine spoon,
with a hollow tubular stem and an elongated drop shaped bowl with a hinged cover, by Johnathon Hayne, 1830 - 14.5cm long, 1oz.
*I Pickford, Silver Flatware, pp208 "First produced in 1827 by Charles Gibson, the spoons have a covered bowl with a hinged flap and a hollow handle. By placing the thumb over the opening at the top of the handle it was possible to control the flow of medicine."
