Lot Essay
Van der Krogt illustrates and describes a similar globe as Bau 1: the title is the same, and, like this example, it has no parallels and, "The name Vancovens In. is written at the northwest coast of America, indicating Vancouver's discoveries (end of the 18th century). The 19th century explorations of the polar regions are not recorded, so that the globe can be dated between ca. 1800 and ca. 1825". However, although the engraved strip shows the same figures, it seems to be much longer than the present example. This box is also smaller than van der Krogt's, and has a slightly different wording, bearing the monogram "M.C.B." and omitting "2. Abtheilung".
