depicting Galileo seated on a stone wall, holding a slate, flanked by terrestrial and celestial globes, the detachable covers moulded in relief, the terrestrial with meridian rings, horizon ring and countries labelled in French, the celestial with meridian ring, horizon ring, and ecliptic band pictorially depicting the houses of the zodiac in relief, one inkwell with glass liner, supported by three winged-lion masks on a triform base, the black slate base with pen trough supported on four feet in the form of paws with foliate decoration -- 14in.
