Lot Essay

It is interesting to note that the two panels depicting geometry and the earth's path around the sun are the same as those in lot xx (a Campe folding globe) and also signed "C. Grünewald sc.". Dekker and van der Krogt state that Bauer, "made globes for the publication by Friedrich Campe", so presumably he obtained these panels from Campe. A section containing twelve of the panels appears to have been inserted in the folding strip: the typography and paper of this section is different to those of the surrounding sections. However, when compared with the folding strips in lots MGL16, MGL17 and xx (three globes by Bauer), all the panels would seem to be by Bauer.
