A 19th-Century German lacquered-brass dip circle,
unsigned, with silvered vertical and horizontal circles, the vertical circle on pivot mount, arranged so as to set in the vertical or horizontal position, the circle divided in four quadrants, the needle mounted between adjustable collars and suspended from the semi- circular limb, mounted on a tapering pillar support on the alidade, with two silvered verniers, the horizontal circle mounted on a tripod stand with adjustment screw and three adjustable screw feet -- 11½in. (29.2cm.) high
