signed L,ings, Chevallier Opticien du Roi a Paris, the broken hour ring with traces of silver, folding latitude arc engraved 0°-75°, (the spring gnomon defective), the silvered compass dial with edge-bar needle and agate cap, the upper surface of the horizontal plate engraved with the latitudes of two continental towns, the underside of the broken hour ring engraved with the latitude of Constantinople and the underside engraved with the latitudes of a further twentyone cities and towns -- 3¼in. (8.2cm.) wide
