A rare early oval striking verge watch movement, Johan Dorffer, first quarter 17th Century,
oval gilt plates with baluster pillars, fusee and spring barrel, strike train barrell with foliate piercing and blued steel spring, striking the hours on a bell mounted above the frontplate, fine pierced and chased side grilles, top plate signed Iohan dorffer fe:, finely pierced and chased backplate furniture, blued steel stop work and numbered countwheel, later balance wheel, 44mm x 32mm.

Due to the very fine and highly decorative nature of this movement, it is quite probable that it was originally mounted in a rock crystal case.
