ST. HELENA -- A REPORT OF NAPOLEON'S DEATH
Three page autograph letter from Lt. James Goldfrap of the 20th Foot Regiment to Mr. Stewart in Wem, Shropshire, 4°, Island St. Helena, 24 July 1821, describing the secrecy surrounding Napoleon's ill health and the effect of his death on his personal staff, his lying-in-state, place of burial and type of coffin, his possessions, and the impending evacuation of the island.

Goldfrap has been serving with his regiment on St. Helena since March/April 1819 (see A. Chaplin A St. Helena Who's Who, 1919, p. 33). Napoleon had died on May 5, 1821.
